What Nazra Means
Nazra means reading by sight, from the Urdu and Persian word for looking. A Nazra Quran course teaches you to read the Quran from the page, as opposed to Hifz, where you recite from memory. In Arab countries the same stage is often simply called tilawah lessons.
The Prophet, peace be upon him, said that each letter read from the Book of Allah earns a good deed, multiplied by ten (Jami at-Tirmidhi 2910). Every page you learn to read counts.
The Route
The online Quran recitation course follows one route, and your teacher sets the pace at each stage.
01
Short surahs of the 30th juz, read slowly and corrected word by word until each one flows.
02
Surahs such as Yasin and Al-Mulk, building stamina for full pages and longer verses.
03
Reading from Al-Fatiha and Al-Baqarah onwards, a set number of lines or pages each class.
04
Completing your first full reading of the Quran, often marked by families with an Ameen celebration.
Recitation Speeds
Scholars of recitation describe three speeds, and a good reader uses all three without breaking any rule.
| Speed | What It Sounds Like | When It Is Used |
|---|---|---|
| Tahqiq | Very slow and deliberate | Learning, so every letter is checked |
| Tadwir | Medium pace | Everyday reading and Salah |
| Hadr | Quick, with rules still kept | Long daily reading and revision |
Students start in tahqiq. Speed comes later and only once accuracy holds, because reading fast with mistakes is a habit that is hard to undo. In Salah, most imams recite in tadwir, the pace your teacher aims for once reading is steady.
Reading Plans
Once you read fluently, the time depends on how much you read each day. The Quran has 30 juz, so the maths is simple.
| Daily Reading | Time to Finish |
|---|---|
| One juz a day | About 30 days, the usual Ramadan khatm |
| Half a juz a day | About 2 months |
| A quarter juz a day | About 4 months |
Students who learn to read Quran online with us go slower at first, because each class covers only what can be read correctly.
Many families then set a shared goal, such as one khatm each Ramadan, to keep reading after the course ends.
Who It Is For
Three groups gain most from this Quran recitation course, whatever their age.
If you cannot yet read Arabic letters, start with our Noorani Qaida course first. Adults returning after years away can see the adults page.
Comparison
A Tajweed course teaches the detailed rules of recitation, such as noon sakinah and the kinds of madd, by name and in depth.
| Question | Nazra (Reading) | Tajweed |
|---|---|---|
| Main aim | Read the Mushaf fluently and correctly | Apply every recitation rule precisely |
| Rules covered | Basic rules, applied as you read | Full rules, named and explained |
| Starting point | Straight after the Qaida | Once you read smoothly |
| Suits | New readers and rusty readers | Fluent readers and future Hifz students |
| Next step | Tajweed or Hifz | Hifz or teaching others |
For most students, Nazra comes first and the Tajweed course follows. Fluent readers with weak rules can go straight to Tajweed.
Questions
Still have a question? Our team answers on WhatsApp and will help you pick the right course and time.
Yes. Reading and understanding are separate skills, and most Muslims learn to read first. Once you read fluently, our translation course teaches the meaning of what you recite, word by word.
The route is the same, but the pace and explanations change with age. Children get shorter readings and more repetition, while adults cover more lines and get the reasons behind each correction.
Most students read the Indo-Pak Mushaf, which matches the Noorani Qaida. If your family reads the Madinah Mushaf in Uthmani script, tell us when booking so your teacher prepares for it.
Yes. One-to-one classes let you read at your own speed with no one else waiting. Your teacher works with short phrases, builds confidence first and never rushes you to reach a target.
The course focuses on correct and fluent reading, not voice training. Clear, correct recitation already sounds beautiful, and many students find their voice grows steadier as their confidence improves.
It depends on your level. A new reader may manage a few lines in a 30-minute class, while a fluent reader can cover a page or more with corrections. Your teacher sets each lesson’s target.
