What Tajweed Is
Tajweed comes from the Arabic root j-w-d, meaning to make something excellent. In recitation, it means giving every letter its right place, quality and length.
The rules taught today come from classical texts such as Tuhfat al-Atfal by Sulayman al-Jamzuri and al-Muqaddimah al-Jazariyyah by Ibn al-Jazari, still memorized by Tajweed students across the world.
Syllabus
The online Tajweed course moves through seven groups of rules, from the sounds of single letters to stopping and starting in a verse.
| Rule Group | What You Learn |
|---|---|
| Makharij and sifaat | Where each letter is formed and its qualities, such as heavy, light or whispered |
| Noon sakinah and tanween | Izhar, idgham, iqlab and ikhfa, the four ways a silent noon is read |
| Meem sakinah | Ikhfa shafawi, idgham shafawi and izhar shafawi |
| Qalqalah | The light echo on qaf, taa, ba, jeem and dal when they carry a sukoon |
| Heavy and light letters | Tafkheem and tarqeeq, including the rules for ra and the lam in Allah’s name |
| Madd | Natural madd of 2 counts, connected and separated madd of 4 or 5, and necessary madd of 6 |
| Waqf and ibtida | Stopping signs in the Mushaf and where to start again after a pause |
How Lessons Work
In our online Tajweed classes, each rule is explained in English, then found in a real verse. Your teacher recites the verse, you repeat it, and the rule is heard before it is memorized by name.
Mistakes are sorted into two kinds. Lahn jali is a clear error that can change a word’s meaning, and it is fixed at once. Lahn khafi is a hidden error in the finer rules, worked on as your recitation improves.
Because Tajweed is learned by ear, a headset and a quiet room matter more in this course than in any other.

Who It Is For
Students who learn Tajweed online with us need to read the Mushaf before starting, even slowly. For complete newcomers, Tajweed for beginners online starts inside our Noorani Qaida course instead.
Rules taught through short surahs and lots of repetition, a few at a time, with plenty of praise.
The reason behind every rule, plus correction of habits picked up from years of untrained reading.
Every term explained in English, with extra drill on sounds that English does not have.
Clean recitation before memorizing, so no mistake is locked into memory for years afterwards.

Outcomes
By the end of the Quran Tajweed course, the difference is easy to hear. Ghunnah is held for its full two counts, every madd is the same length each time it appears, and heavy letters sound clearly different from light ones.
You will also stop at the right signs and restart from a sensible place, so the meaning of a verse is never cut in half.
Record yourself reading Surah Al-Mulk in your first week and again at the end. Most students are surprised by the change.
Comparison
An Ijazah program is an advanced track where a student recites the whole Quran to a teacher who already holds an Ijazah and receives a licence with a chain of transmission, called a sanad.
| Question | Tajweed Course | Ijazah Program |
|---|---|---|
| Goal | Recite correctly by applying the rules | Gain a licence to teach recitation |
| Who joins | Readers at almost any level | Advanced reciters, often Huffaz |
| What you recite | Selected verses and surahs | The entire Quran to one teacher |
| Ends with | Confident, correct recitation | An Ijazah with a sanad |
| Offered at LQO | Yes | No, although our teachers hold an Ijazah |
Almost every student needs a Tajweed course first. Only a small number go on to an Ijazah, usually years later.
Questions
Still have a question? Our team answers on WhatsApp and will help you pick the right course and time.
You can learn the rule names from a book, but not apply them reliably. Tajweed has always been passed on by ear, from teacher to student, because only a listener can catch a wrong length or sound.
A completion certificate is not the same as an Ijazah, and it is not required to recite correctly. Ask our team during your free week what your course includes when you finish.
No. Apps are useful for hearing rules and colour-coded examples, but they cannot hear your own recitation. Use one for revision alongside a teacher who corrects you.
They help, because teachers and books use them, but applying a rule matters more than naming it. Your teacher gives the Arabic name and explains it in English every time.
Yes. Our general reading classes apply basic Tajweed as you read, while this course names and teaches every rule in depth. Fluent readers who want precise recitation should take this course.
Choose one-to-one lessons with a teacher who holds an Ijazah, a clear syllabus by rule group, and real verse practice in every class. Then judge the teacher’s corrections in a free trial.
